Google Ventures Library

We started Design Staff over 2 years ago with a simple mission: Help startups design great products. Since then, we published dozens of articles based on our experiences working with startups of all sizes. We tried to cover practical stuff, like design sprints, user research, hiring, UX metrics, and even body language. Over 350,000 people have visited Design Staff. And most importantly, they seem to like it.

From the beginning, Design Staff has been published and edited by Google Ventures. Braden Kowitz and I (both design partners at GV) launched the blog in 2011 and we’ve had incredible contributions from our partners Jake Knapp and Michael Margolis, GV portfolio designers like Joshua Porter and Jonathan Bruck, Googlers like Mike Buzzard and Kerry Rodden, and Google alumni like Chad Thornton and Jenna Bilotta.

Encouraged by the success of Design Staff, we launched the GV Library in late 2013 as part of our new Google Ventures website. It’s like Design Staff on steroids — in addition to practical articles on design and user research, we have Kevin Rose’s interviews with founders and advice on everything from product management to workspace design.

It no longer makes sense to maintain a separate blog for design, so we’ve decided to retire Design Staff and focus our efforts on the GV Library. Starting soon, designstaff.org will redirect to gv.com, and we’ll be publishing new articles in the GV Library. We’ll also update the feed and our Twitter account so you don’t need to resubscribe.

Thank you for reading! We are truly grateful. We’ve been amazed at the response to Design Staff, and we hope you’ll join us at the GV Library.
