I’m excited about Google Fiber coming to Provo. What happens now?
Today we announced that we hope to purchase iProvo, an existing fiber-optic network owned by the city of Provo. As a part of the acquisition, we would commit to upgrade the network to gigabit technology and finish network construction so that every home along the existing iProvo network would have the opportunity to connect to Google Fiber. Our agreement with Provo isn’t approved yet—it’s pending a vote by the City Council scheduled for next Tuesday, April 23, and also is subject to satisfaction of additional closing conditions. We intend to begin network upgrades when the deal is closed.
We hope to have service to our first customers in late 2013, and will have more information to share soon.
Which areas of Provo will get service?
The original network was built 10+ years ago and a lot has evolved since then in the world of fiber networking, so we would want to upgrade it to today's latest technologies. We also hope to help fulfill the city’s original vision—widespread, high speed connectivity throughout the community—by offering our Free Service, which would be available to every home along the existing iProvo network, for just a $30 activation fee (plus applicable taxes) and no monthly cost for at least 7 years.
What plans will you offer and how much will they cost?
If the deal is approved and the acquisition closes, we’d offer our Free Internet service (5 Mbps speeds), to every home along the existing Provo network, for a $30 activation fee (plus applicable taxes) and no monthly charge for at least 7 years. We would also offer Google Fiber Gigabit Internet—up to 100x faster Internet than today’s average broadband speeds—and the option for Google Fiber TV service with hundreds of your favorite channels. We’d also provide free Gigabit Internet service to twenty-five local public institutions like schools, hospitals and libraries.

I’m a Veracity customer - what does this mean for me?
You won’t experience any immediate changes—you can continue to use your service as you do today. If the deal is approved and the acquisition closes, you’ll still be able to use your same service for awhile, and you would eventually have the option of becoming a Google Fiber customer for a $30 activation fee (plus applicable taxes). We will share more details with you as we get closer to offering service. To keep updated on any new developments, please enter your email address above for the latest news.
Will you be offering service to businesses?
